Hi, I am a practitioner in Minnesota and saw a patient that has been to your clinic. I would like to open my space and am debating about the community style, she mentioned that you have a combination of group and private and that is what I am thinking may work best for me. Would you mind sharing with me how you work that in your space and your pay structure? My family is in Portland, and I will be there for a wedding in July. If I have time I may try to stop by your clinic and check it out or maybe just make an appt. Any shared thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks and much continued success and blessings with your space. Hello Rebeca,
Thanks for your inquiry I am no longer in Portland working @ sevenstar, I am now living in Palmer, Alaska, but I can share some of my personal experience of working in both group and privet settings.
Pro’s of working in both group and privet are: You can see more patients per hour; you can make it more affordable for a larger socioeconomic spectrum of the population; it can give the patient more choices about how they wish to be treated, and how much they can pay; and you can see patients more often with less cost to them per treatment and increase the effectiveness of treatment.
Con’s of working in both group and privet are: #1 patients tend to expect the same treatment from both group and privet so I would make a very clear distinction between what you offer in group as opposed to privet, like price, time spent with patient, modalities offered in each setting. I would recommend making your group practice be as simple as possible, the initial intake with the patient on there first visit should be a privet treatment, and in group you shouldn’t spend more than 10-15 minutes with each patient, because in group style treatments you should be able to see more patients in less time. Also if you are working by your self doing both group and privet at the same time then you might get baked up, so in that case it may be advisable to have specific times for each, like two to three hours per day for group etc.
as prices go Sevenstar had four sliding scales one for group from $15 to $35, one for privet from $27 to $75, one for bodywork from $40 to $65, and one for nutritional and herbal consultations from $15 to $30. Personally I feel that this specific set of sliding scales confused the patients, so I would make it as clear and simple as possible and try not to overlap the different rates if you choose to do sliding scales. I personally prefer to work with a flat rate and am open to reducing my rates for people who verify that they can’t afford my rates. In Alaska I have to charge more because everything here costs more.
I would definitely recommend going by Sevenstar this summer and checking it out, the practitioners there are wonderful there website is http://sevenstarpdx.com and the phone # is (503)236-6833 you can find them @ 436 SE. 12th AVE. Portland, Oregon and their Email is Sevenstaracupuncture@gmail.com
Hope this helps, and feel free to contact me on my cell phone @ (503) 260-4369, or website.
Best wishes to you and your clinic,
